Quoted $269 to press a wheel bearing out and put a new one in on a completely disassembled wheel knuckle. I supplied all new parts. Just needed it pressed with the shop press. 15-30 minute job and quoted 3 hours of labor. Local competitor did it the same day for $60. $60 vs $269. I was willing to pay a full hour of labor for a 15-30 minute job but not 2-3 hours. Interestingly it was 4pm the guy said it be ready around 5pm but was attempting to charge 2-3 hours of labor. Lol
Good afternoon Mr. Stallings, in regards to pressing in your supplied part, the components did appear to look slightly rusted and sometimes this can lead to the part having issues coming out. In the event that it only took 15-30 minutes, we assure you that the cost would have decreased to reflect that time. It then would have been $50-60 as well. But on the other hand, we wouldn't want to quote you that cost had it taken significantly longer, then have the cost be more expensive like you mentioned you couldn't afford. You stated that you wanted to stay within a certain budget for this repair and without the guarantee that it could be done within that budget you decided to go elsewhere. We hope you understand the logic behind this and reasoning of the potential quoted amount.
